Low Oxalate Diet Against the Candida Diet

A person I know was wondering if anyone knew anything about the low-oxalate diet. She has vulvodynia pretty bad, and although some of her other yeast-related symptoms have improved a bit, this remains unchanged. She pretty much considers it to be the most uncomfortable symptom besides her digestive problems, and is curious why it is not getting better. She has tried a lot, and suffered through 2 years of continuous antibiotic (keflex) treatment because her doctors thought it was a staph infection on her vulva.

So, she was reading about vulvodynia in some of her books, and started checking it out on the internet, and she came across some references to the low oxalate diet as a successful treatment. She checked it out, and is confused. A lot of it goes completely against the candida diet, like sugar being considered a low-oxalate item. So, she wonders if she should try to follow both simultaneously. She thinks she would go crazy, not to mention there would be only like 2 things she could eat in the absence of high oxalates, sugar, yeast, etc. She needs to know any experiences on this diet.

I did the low oxalate diet, which I learned about from on the vulvodynia articles before I really knew that all of my symptoms were linked together. I did the diet for over a month, but basically said screw it when I got a really nasty yeast infection and all her vulvar pain came back full force! The reason I was having all of these problems had nothing to do with oxalates is it had to do with newly developed food sensitivities due to problems with my digestive system.

Your symptoms will not get better until you find out what foods you are sensitive to and stop eating all refined sugars! My sensitivities were: caffeine, corn, and dairy. All of which I was still consuming on that “low oxalate diet”. I miss coffee, but the distant reminder of that pain down there relieves me!
