Between Loosened and Hardcore Candida Dieters

One of my friends is going back on the anti candida diet after a few years and she is kind of hesitating now. One of the reasons she gave it up the last time was because she wasn’t a very versatile cook. Now, she owns some really excellent cookbooks, and has a database of recipes. She has gone through them and bookmarked things she can cook. There were a lot more than she initially imagined and the variety is good. First, when she was on the diet before, she had a friend who was on it as well and they are kind of becoming buddies by providing support and advice to one another. Well, her friend has since moved, so she is going solo as it were. She finds it hard and often cheats now.

On the other side, however, I have noticed that there are a number of hard core dieters. I really respect their determination and their right to take their health into their own hands, but it sometimes comes across as religious zealotry. Some will insist that all carbs are taboo, which a variety of flushes are required or that certain very expensive supplements are necessary. I think there is a lot of value to the advice, but you also have to remember that the most important thing is to adopt a diet you can stick with.

In my case, I started out with a very strict diet and was about ready to give it up since it just didn’t fit into my lifestyle. I am still strict in many ways, with no sugar, virtually no simple carbs, and no yeast. But, I do eat whole grains and am learning to trust my body to tell me what is not good for me. I am finding after about a month on the diet that it is much easier to determine what is bad, and I have eased up on certain things. We had a holiday celebration at work the other day and I let myself indulge in some lasagna, but times like that are rare.
